Another goal is to raise awareness about the importance of preventive\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capehartdentistry.com\/family-dentistry.html\">dentistry<\/a>.\nAs you read on, you\u2019ll learn some facts about kids\u2019 dental care and some tips\nfor ways to make improvements that will save you time and money in the future!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kids\u2019 Oral Health Statistics You Should Know About<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the educational aspect of National Children\u2019s\nDental Health Month, here are some key facts that are worth paying attention\nto:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Untreated\nTooth Decay <\/strong>\u2013 The leading health concern facing children is cavity\ndevelopment. Unfortunately, nearly half of those with tooth decay won\u2019t receive\nthe restorative care they need, which could set them on a downward spiral of\npoor oral health for the rest of their lives.<\/li><li><strong>Problems\nat School <\/strong>\u2013 Statistics from the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools\nshow that 51 million hours of school are missed due to dental health-related\nissues. <\/li><li><strong>Children\u2019s\nTeeth Left Unprotected <\/strong>\u2013 Over 80% of cavities are on the chewing surface of\nchildren\u2019s teeth, which means there is a greater chance of there being a\nreoccurrence. While dental sealants provide an excellent means of protection,\nless than 20% of children receive at least one.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of challenges like those listed above, dentists\nacross the country are ramping-up their efforts to promote preventive care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Cavities Can Lead to Gum Disease<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It could be said that cavities, untreated, are the gateway\nto gum disease, which is the inflammation of the gums. The same bacteria that\ncause tooth decay, if ignored, can eventually work their way beneath the gums\nto cause germ pockets to form that could also start a domino-effect of health\nproblems in other parts of the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, setting a trend of oral care excellence early, can\npositively impact your child\u2019s health well into adulthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ways to Make Improvements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Two ways to boost your child\u2019s oral health are to maintain excellent\noral hygiene habits and semi-annual appointments with a local dentist. Here\u2019s a\nmore in-depth look at each:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Oral\nHygiene <\/strong>\u2013 At least two times a day, your child should be brushing and\nflossing his or her teeth. To better ensure this happens, you can set-up a\nreward system for compliance where you take your child on a fun outing, go\nshopping for a toy or some other exciting perk.<\/li><li><strong>Dentist\nVisits <\/strong>\u2013 Every six months, you should take your child to visit the dentist\nfor cleanings and examinations.
